“Our Editorial Board interviewed six top candidates for this endorsement. Of those, Loren Taylor, a council member for District Six, stood out as particularly thoughtful. A former business consultant and biomedical engineer, he’s committed to transparency and the equitable distribution of city resources.

With that in mind, we consider Taylor most qualified to be mayor.
Taylor’s priorities match the needs of Oakland residents. People we talked to who’d known and worked with Taylor described him as effective and kind. His business and engineering background could help with faster city hiring practices and improved transparency in spending. We like his idea of creating a satellite office in East Oakland to better serve the needs of residents there who have experienced decades of disinvestment in safety, streets and infrastructure. A self-professed YIMBY, Taylor supports streamlining the construction of all types of housing to put Oakland into compliance with hefty state-mandated housing goals. And his grasp of using safe streets infrastructure, not heavy-handed policing that is susceptible to racial profiling, to stem traffic injuries and fatalities, shows a thoughtful ability to balance community needs.”
