“‘The city has incredible power and potential to use its spending on contracting professional services and goods procurement to support local Oakland businesses and even be able to make opportunities more equitable for minority-owned businesses, Black-owned businesses, women-owned businesses,’ City Council member Loren Taylor, who introduced the resolution, told me. He has a unique perspective, having spent years in the private sector, often working on the purchasing side of supplier-diversity programs that large companies have embraced to boost opportunities for women- and minority-owned firms. Earlier in his career, Taylor was a director of business strategy and innovation at PWC Consulting in San Francisco. He joined the Oakland City Council in January 2019.”
